Faune

Faune is an original typeface family commissioned by the French Centre National des Arts Plastiques (French Ministry of Culture) in partnership with Imprimerie Nationale. The type family is inspired by the animal world, in particular by engravings found in nineteenth century French history books. Beyond its historical roots, Faune proposes an unusual and daring definition of the notion of a type family. To read the full story behind the typeface and to download the fonts, visit the Faune minisite.

Romain 20 is a modern reinterpretation of a foundry face originally released by Fonderie Alainguillaume at the beginning of the twentieth century. An elegant and voluptuous design with a resolutely French touch, this digital interpretation departs in places from its original model, just enough to withstand modern taste.

Lucette

Lucette is a typeface family in progress that revisits the ‘heavy top’ idea, a concept dear to French type designers throughout the last century. The family toys with the theory that emphasizing the top part of letterforms increases legibility, taking the concept to an extreme in ‘Lucette Large’, its display variant. The proportions of ‘Lucette Text’ are optimized for superb legibility at small body sizes, both in print and on-screen. The typeface features a large x-height and generous proportions, and offers the right amount of expressivity and warmth without ever compromising on reading comfort. The family is loosely inspired by a variety of designs such as Gill Sans Double Elefans, Antique Olive, and the unreleased Nordica by Ladislas Mandel. The name Lucette was chosen as a tribute to Lucette Girard, a talented letter-drawer who assisted some renowned designers throughout the second part of the twentieth century, including Adrian Frutiger, Roger Excoffon and Raymond Loewy.

Lucette is available on Futurefonts (only the Black for now).

Capucine

Capucine is a a sans-serif design with a strong calligraphic flavour, fit for identity and editorial purposes. Initially started as a student project at the University of Reading, the Capucine family has grown into an extensive family of 10 weights. Designed to be both useful and friendly, Capucine carries a slight informal flavour due to its calligraphic roots. It is a lively design which makes for an expressive display face while remaining very legible at small sizes, thanks to its large x-height. With its 10 styles – all including Small Caps – the family offers a large typographic palette. From the delicacy of the Thin to the generous curves of the bolder weights, Capucine is a versatile choice and contributes to produce memorable pieces of graphic communication.

Capucine is available for purchase from Process Type Foundry.
